                                  The Men's Health Initiative

                                  Picture
The Men's Health Initiative promotes healthy behaviors through three primary approaches: informing men about health and wellness, identifying risks unique to men, and implementing behavioral interventions.

MHI sets as its primary goals: (a) to reduce the health disparity between the sexes and (b) promote awareness and action among males.

MHI was founded in June 2010 and is headquartered in Philadelphia, PA. MHI offers men's health information and promotional services regionally and nationally.

Currently, MHI is headquartered in Orlando, Florida with a branch operating out of Philadelphia. Plans are underway to open up more MHI branches across the US.

Come see Dr. Rovito talk with the UCF community on sexual health issues experienced by college men. Perhaps even this information can relate to most men. Who knows? But it's worth the discussion.

Come to CSB 101 on Friday, April 20th at UCF's main campus to engage Dr. Rovito and the student body on these topics in a structured, yet informal seminar discussion.

                                  All are welcome to attend.

                                  Protect the Balls!

                                  Picture
MHI has forged a partnership with Mr. Greg Phelps' "Protect the Balls" organization. See the below statement from Mr. Phelps on the organization. We encourage all readers to check them out.

"Protect the Balls(PTB) is a group founded based primarily on the lack of attention that male cancer, e.g. prostate and testicular, recieve in the medical community, and especially the general community. In today's society it is common to see groups that raise awareness(and large sums of money) for breast cancer in  particular. However, similar organizations supporting strictly men are much  fewer and farther in between. Thus, PTB was formed in order to raise awareness  and research money by selling t-shirts and bracelets with our slogan on it. We have a website at www.protecttheballs.com, where
anyone can order PTB  merchandise. As a startup organization, logistics and maintaining an inventory  are both very hard for us to manage because of such limited funds and notoriety. Our goal is to become as large and successful as companies like Save the Tata's, whom raise so much money for breast cancer on such a large scale. A  newspaper article written about PTB can be found at
http://www.centralfloridafuture.com/news/new-organization-aims-to-support-prostate-testicular-cancer-charities-1.2679524 and gives a few more details about our group. If you have any questions, ideas, or comments, please contact us!"

                                  Thanks!

                                  Sincerely,
                                  Gregory M. Phelps

                                  Picture
Dr. James Leone of Bridgewater State University recently published Concepts in Male Health: Perspectives Across the Lifespan through Wiley Publishers. The book is a "practical approach to understanding the health of males of all races, ethnicities, socioeconomic status, cultures, ages, and orientations. It provides solid guidance for males to optimize their well-being and prevent illness and impairment". It is a fantastic synopsis of male health across the life continuum.

Dr. Leone is an Assistant Professor of Health in the Department of Movement Arts, Health Studies, and Leisure Studies. A true champion of men's health research and promotion, Dr. Leone serves as a Community Outreach and Research Consultant for MHI and is a member/activist in numerous national research institutions. See his full bio here.

MHI congratulates Dr. Leone on his recent publication. We encourage all enthusiasts to pick up a copy today.
